School Audit: The Lifestyle Survey
RedBranch help schools (both primary and secondary) to carry out a lifestyle
survey, following which we prepare a report for the school. The results of the
survey help schools to set specific, achievable goals. Repeating the survey on
an annual basis can help schools to monitor progress. You can view a sample
report (from a secondary school) by clicking here.
We recommend that the survey results should be presented to parents. In many
of our client schools, the survey process has been lead by students, who have
used the results as the basis for theme-based projects. In secondary schools, it
may even be possible for students to administer the survey. In some of our client
schools, the survey has been carried out by Transition Year students, and in
other schools LCA students have administered the survey. The survey results can
form a focal point that generates discussion and brings the lifestyle issue to
the attention of parents, students and teachers. It can also provide invaluable
"real-life" data for use in the classroom. For example, at National
School level, 5th class teachers might use TV watching data from the survey to
teach mathematics. For an example of this, click here.
In the future we hope to provide all our survey materials on-line for schools
to access. In the meantime, if you would like to carry out a lifestyle survey at
your school, please contact us and we can supply you with the relevant material
along with detailed instructions for administering the survey.
