Fruit Breaks at St Mochulla's NS Tulla Co. Clare
"The fruit break in St.
Mochulla’s has been one of the success stories of the year. Red Branch
visited the school last year and carried out a survey on the leisure and
lifestyle habits of the children. The replies were collated and presented
to staff and parents. One suggestion made was the introduction of a
“fruit break” where the children eat a piece of fresh fruit in class
each day. Next on board was the Parents Association who sourced and costed
the fruit.
We are now heading into our 10th week of the fruit break in operation. So
far it has been a huge success. Perhaps the only negative is the purchase
of a third compost bin to accommodate all of the fruit skins, apple cores
etc. Nevertheless to have 234 children and staff eating a piece of fresh
fruit every day – and enjoying the activity, is all to the good."
