What is RedBranch?
RedBranch is an international
health and lifestyle consultancy based in Co. Clare, Ireland.
We are a not-for-profit organisation that was formed to address
the lifestyle crisis in Irish children. Since our beginnings in 2003, we have worked
exclusively with parents, schools and young people in Ireland on a voluntary
basis. We are in the process of registering as a charity.
Our People
Ken Boland
Ken is a Sport Science graduate from the University of
Limerick. Born and raised in Co. Clare, Ken specialises in research and
development of educational materials both for print and for the RedBranch
website. Ken is heavily involved with the promotion of non-standard physical
activities within schools and communities. Ken also works to ensure that
children have good access to healthy food choices, and is closely involved in
RedBranch’s media awareness campaigns.
David Egan
David is an Exercise Physiologist who has worked with
top athletes both in Ireland and the UK. David worked with many of the Irish
Olympic and Paralympic athletes prior to the Athens Olympics/Paralympics in
2004 and the Sydney Olympics in 2000. David’s current speciality is
empowerment and the facilitation of behavioural change. This includes
providing effective teaching resources to schools, developing educational
material for parents and communicating with young people about
over-consumption, junk food and passivity. David has four children and is a third
degree black belt.
Danny Rutar
Danny is an Australian who has lived and worked in
Ireland for more than a decade. Danny is a qualified Biophysicist and has
worked at the Australian Institute of Sport, the Victorian Institute of
Sport and the University of Limerick. Danny has helped many international
and Olympic athletes both in Australia and Ireland. His interests include
human performance, motor learning, sensory systems and lifestyle
development. Apart from developing RedBranch educational materials, Danny
has helped to involve Irish business in healthy lifestyle initiatives...his
work has ranged from the provision of fruit and bottled water in schools to
the development and promotion of non-standard physical activities. Danny
also helps secondary school students to set up micro-businesses which
promote healthy lifestyle choices.
Dr Gisela Sangiovanni
Gisela is a medical doctor and a clinical nutritionist
with postgraduate specialisations in obesity and physical exercise. Gisela
is from Argentina, and has worked with many Argentinean international
soccer, rugby and tennis players. Gisela provides much of the technical
backup to the RedBranch message, including papers on the health benefits of
proper diet, physical exercise, and the health effects of junk food
consumption. |

Our Name
The Red Branch Knights are one of the most famous warrior groups in Irish
Celtic mythology. The Knights were led by the King of Ulster, Conor Mac
Nessa. Probably the most famous of the Red Branch Knights was
Cuchullain. Cuchullain and the Knights were renowned for their, physical
strength, health, courage, and wisdom.
The original Red Branch seemed willing to stand up and challenge the
accepted order...and this inspired us to adopt the RedBranch name for our
organisation.
Unlike the original Red Branch, we are based
in County Clare.
